Photographer

I don’t recall how old I was when I got my first camera, but photography, like my other two vocations, has interested me at least since late adolescence. Like most folks, I enjoyed documenting my life with photos of the people and places that mattered to me; and, like most folks, I liked to think that my handiwork in that department rose well above the snapshot level.

In the 1980s, however, as I became an increasingly avid hiker, backpacker, and mountaineer, I felt the need to up my photographic game in order to do justice to the gorgeous scenery and wildlife I was encountering.

A couple decades later, after moving to Vancouver Island and getting involved in the lively folk-music scene in and around Victoria, I added a third theme—musical performances—to my photographic portfolio.

Around the same time, I began to pick up the odd professional gig, shooting portraits as well as weddings, concerts, staff parties, and the like. I don’t do weddings anymore, as that kind of work is a bit too nerve-wracking for a man of my years, but I’m still fine with less demanding shoots. That said, nine-tenths of my photography has always been for pleasure rather than business.

I plan to add more galleries and/or slideshows to this page as time permits. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy these three.
