Songsmith

I was a few days shy of my seventeenth birthday, and I’d already taken to frequenting the coffeehouses where live folk music was played, when Bob Dylan released his first record album. Along with a million other impressionable lads and lasses, I soon convinced myself that I too could be a famous singer-songwriter. The poems I’d gotten published in my school almanac were in rhymed couplets and quatrains, which I much preferred over blank verse, so it was only a small step to begin putting them to music. Those early efforts are best forgotten, but I’ve been dogging the heels of Euterpe, the goddess of poetry and song, ever since.

My songbook,
Three Chords and the Truth, includes the words and music for forty-eight of my original compositions. Even folks who don’t read music may enjoy reading the lyrics and perusing the numerous illustrations, most of them in full colour.

My album,
Meadowlark, includes studio recordings of twelve of the songs.

Digital copies of both these works are provided here, free of charge, for reading, listening, and downloading. The songbook is also available in print and the album on compact disc. You may order these hard-copy products in my
store.

The Songs One by One pages provide chord charts and lead sheets of individual songs, as well as audio tracks for folks who want to learn the tunes but don’t read music.
